The invention relates to a contraceptive method which makes use of competitive antagonists of progesterone administered in doses which are smaller than the ovulation inhibiting dose and smaller than the abortive dose but which are effective in inhibiting the formation of endometrial glands and the growth of epithelium, and/or in inhibiting the activity of said glands required to sucessfully implant the ovule, the dosage being established for every day of each menstrual cycle during which contraception is desired, or during the follicular or the luteal phase, preferably during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, or during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, or once a week each week of the menstrual cycle, or in individual dosage units, with dosage intervals of 4...10 days, starting any day before the ovulation day.
