PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent color toner from sticking to a paper in a mode of forming only a monochromatic image, as for a color image forming device which is constituted by installing color and monochromatic image forming parts as an individual unit and arranging the color and monochromatic image transfer parts on the same carrying path. SOLUTION: The color image forming part 20 and the monochromatic image forming part 10 are arranged in the image forming device 1, and as for the color image forming part 20, three image forming means are arranged on a belt type intermediate transfer body 21 so as to form the color toner image, and then, the color toner image is transferred to the paper through a transfer roller 26. Besides, in the case of forming only the monochromatic copy, the operation of the color image forming part 20 is stopped, and in order to prevent the color toner sticking to the belt type intermediate transfer body 21 from being shifted to the paper, both or one of the transfer roller 26 and a transfer part roller 22 is retreated by a retreat device 60 so that the paper may not come into contact with the image transfer surface of the belt type intermediate transfer body 21.
