PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device without erroneously displaying a closed caption superimposed on a component video signal. SOLUTION: In the display device (PI) that displays the closed caption (Scc, DS) superimposed on a 1st component video signal (Scv1: Y, PB, PR) and a 2nd component video signal (Scv2: Y, U, V) that are received externally, an image signal changeover device (7) selects either of the 1st and 2nd component video signals (Scv1, Scv2), a closed caption decoder (3) extracts a closed caption (Scc, DS) from the selected component video signal (Svc1 or Svc2), and a controller (10) controls the closed caption decoder (3) based on the mode (non NTSC or NTSC) of the selected component video signal (Svc1 or Scv2).
