The invention relates to a single-shaft self-propelled vibratory compactor, meant to static and dynamic compaction in hardly accessible narrow spaces. The compactor is provided with a reduction gear inverter-distributor (1) which transmits the motion from a heat engine (3) to a roller (13) by means of a chain drive (11) and some anti-vibrating members, said inverter transmitting also the motion to a vibration generator with a cam gear (17) by means of a belt gearing (15), the coupling of the back and forth travel and vibrations being possible due to some friction gears (7,8) remotely controlled by hand.
