PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for reducing stain due to a residual spectral sensitizing dye in a photographic image and to also provide a spectral sensitizing dye stain reducing photographic processing composition further having one or more components which are photochemicals useful in one or more steps of a photographic processing method. SOLUTION: Specified aromatic compounds each having a wide planarπ- system are useful as spectral sensitizing by dye stain reducers in a photographic processing composition and in various silver halide photographic materials in a method for providing a color image or a black-and-white image. Each of these compounds has absolutely no diaminostilbene fragment or condensed triazole nucleus. Though the compounds are particularly useful in fixing and bleaching compositions in the processing of a silver halide color photographic material, they may be used in other various processing compositions.
