PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet embedded motor that allows a quantity of permanent magnets used to be reduced, without degrading motor efficiency. SOLUTION: Magnet housing holes 3 (a central portion marked by 3a and peripheral portion marked by 3b) the cross section in the axial direction, of which is trapezoidal in shape, with its projected side facing toward the center are formed in a rotor core 1. Permanent magnets 19 are embedded in the magnet housing holes 3 (permanent magnets corresponding to the central portion 3a marked by 10a and permanent magnets corresponding to the peripheral portion 3b marked by 10b). A notched portion 6, cut from end walls 5 of the magnet housing holes 3 in the direction of the outer circumference of the rotor core 1 is formed in the portion of the rotor core 1, opposed to the end walls 5. Or a gap is formed between the end walls 5 and the outer circumferential wall of the rotor core 1.
