PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the housing work of a recording medium and the retrieval of the housed recording medium. SOLUTION: The in-disk information such as the disk title, the name of artist or the name of music are read out by an MD inserted from an insertion slot and are kept to be stored in a RAM (ST1). When the housing instruction is issued by the operation of a 'store' key, a screen for specifying a housing rack is displayed so that the rack number on the unoccupied rack is specified (ST2, ST5, ST6, ST8). When the 'enter' key is operated, the in-disk information in the RAM is stored in a hard disk while making it correspond to the specified rack number, and also the MD inserted from the slot is housed in the rack of the specified rack number (ST7, ST9, ST10). When the 'eject' key is operated, the housing process is stopped and the inserted MD is ejected. Also, when the MD once housed in the housing rack is ejected, the information regarding the MD is deleted by the hard disk.
