PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize combustion by throwing sludge having different properties in response to a combustion state in an incinerator. SOLUTION: There are provided in an incinerator 20 for incinerating sludge a plurality of sludge supply feeders 41, 42 for throwing sludge having different water contents into an incinerator, a plurality of feeder controllers 45, 46 each for controlling sludge supply amounts of the respective sludge supply feeders 41, 42, a plurality of water contents meters 47, 48 each for measuring the water contents in the sludge in the respective sludge supply feeders 45, 46, sensor means for detecting a process value indicative of a combustion state in the incinerator, and an automated combustion controller 49 for judging a combustion mode adapted to the combustion state in the incinerator while taking as an index an output value of the sensor means among previously set combustion modes and hereby instructing the amount of the sludge supply in the respective sludge supply feeders 41, 42 to the respective feeder controllers 45, 46 in response to the combustion mode.
