PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing magnetic recording medium which is capable of eliminating appearance defects without impairing the cupping preventive effect of a hot roll treatment and a method of manufacturing magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The apparatus 10 for manufacturing magnetic recording medium which is provided with >=2 nip rolls 2 and 3 and heat treats a magnetic recording medium 20 by transferring the recording medium between the hot roll 4 and the nip rolls 2 and 3 is constituted. This method consists in manufacturing the magnetic recording medium 20 by having a stage for transferring the magnetic recording medium 20 between the hot roll 4 and >=2 nip rolls 2 and 3 and heat treating the magnetic recording medium by the hot roll 4.
