PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device that records/reproduces a digital broadcast program or the like to facilitate a program search at reproduction. SOLUTION: The device records a digital television broadcast program under reception, extracts a received image at an optional interval, generates thumbnail pictures based on the extracted image, stores information cross-referencing each thumbnail picture and extracted image position information, records the thumbnail pictures and the cross-referenced information to other areas than the television broadcast recording area after the end of recording of the television broadcast program, and uses the thumbnail pictures and the cross- referenced information for index information in the case of reproducing the television broadcast program whose thumbnail pictures and the cross-referenced information are recorded.
