In a friction, claw, or facial pin and recess coupling comprising a first member 10 freely rotatable on a shaft 1, which is hollow at least at one end, a second member 7 rotatable with but axially slidable along the shaft 1 and urged by a spring 8 into coupling engagement with the first member 10, insertion of a hand crank 12 into the hollow shaft end first disengages the coupling and then brings the projecting ends of a pin 13 through the crank 12 into driving engagement with slots 14 in the end of shaft 1. In Fig. 1, curved radial pawls 4 pass through slots 3 in shaft 1 into slots 6 of member 7 to couple member 7 to shaft 1. When crank 12 is inserted, its end pushes the pivoted together ends of pawls 4 causing them to urge member 7 against spring 8 to disengage the coupling. Then the pin 13 engages the slots 14. When the crank 12 is released, spring 8 acts via member 7 and pawls 4 to push it out of engagement with collar 9. In Fig. 3, the crank acts on a transverse pin 15 keying the member 7<SP>1</SP> to shaft 1<SP>1</SP> to push the member 7<SP>1</SP> out of engagement with the member 10<SP>1</SP>, against spring 81. The member 10 or 10<SP>1</SP> constitutes the normal driving member of the coupling. |
