摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the visual field angle of display wide as much as possible and also to make a display response speedy as fast as possible without generating any display failure. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element is provided with an array substrate 10 having plural scanning lines 12 formed on a transparent first substrate 11, plural signal lines 16 formed so as to intersect the scanning lines on the first substrate, switching elements 17 provided at every intersection of the scanning lines and the signal lines, pixel electrodes 22 provided above switching elements in accordance with respective switching elements 17 and first oriented films 24 formed so as to cover the pixel electrodes and an counter substrate 30 which is provided with counter electrodes 32 formed on a transparent second substrate and second oriented films 34 formed so as to cover the counter electrodes and a light control layer 40 held between the array substrate and the counter substrate 30 and the light control layer 40 is composed of an antiferroelectric material having non-threshold type voltage-to-transmissivity and center lines 44 of cones 42 indicating existing ranges of orientation of average molecules of this nonferroelectric material are configured so as to be roughly orthogonally crossed with the signal lines 16.</p>
