PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device which maintains the floating height from the surface of a magnetic disk of a slider with high accuracy and has high reliability. SOLUTION: The head slider which is provided with a magnetic disk device movably on the disk in its radial direction, floats by receiving the air flow generated by the rotating disk and a disk-facing surface and changes the direction of the air flow according to the position on the disk has floating surface patterns 20a and 20b which are formed on the disk-facing surface 12 and generate floating power on the rotating disk and pads 141, 142, 143 and 144 which are fored in the position different from the floating surface patterns 20a and 20b, have apexes projecting from the floating surface patterns 20a and 20b and come into contact with the surfaces of the disk when the disk stops rotating. The floating surface patterns 20a and 20b exist outside a downstream region along the direction within a fluctuation range of the air flow from the pads 141, 142, 143 and 144.
