PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bring an entire image to a proper exposure range by surely avoiding an obtained image from partially reaching an over-exposure/under- exposure even when an electronic image pickup element with a narrow latitude is employed. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a control section 22 that divides an area of image information obtained by a CCD 12 into a plurality of areas and adjusts a gain of an amplifier 16 by each area corresponding to the image information obtained by the CCD 12 on the basis of sensitivity information set by a key entry section 27 and is different from each area.
