PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin discriminating device capable of efficiently discriminating the presence/absence of slant indentation in simple device configuration. SOLUTION: Concerning the device for discriminating the prescribed slant indentation G obliquely slanted in the direction of an axial line formed on the outer peripheral surface of a coin C to be fed by a coin feeding path 2 in the radial direction, this device has a light emitting means 3 for irradiating the outer peripheral surface of the coin C fed in the coin feeding path 2 with light, a light receiving means 4 located in the direction of forward reflecting light emitted by this light emitting means 3 on the slant indentation G and a discriminating means for discriminating the presence/absence of the slant indentation G on the basis of the light receiving level of this light receiving means 4.
