OPTICAL FIBER ARRAY AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture at a low cost an optical fiber array for which high precision is required by forming the end surface 12B of optical fiber group arrayed at a prescribed interval. SOLUTION: Optical fibers 12 to which protective coating is applied are stored in respective V shaped grooves 11 of a substrate 10 in which V shaped grooves 11 are arrayed at a prescribed interval. The end parts 12A of respective optical fibers 12 are fixed onto the substrate 10 in the state of being projected from the end edge 10A of the substrate 10. The end parts of the optical fibers are cut so that the projected lengths of the end parts 12A of all optical fibers projected from the end edge of the substrate 10 become equal.
