PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the elapse of time relating to the retry process as much as possible. SOLUTION: In the device for driving optical disk provided with a retry means for reading again data when the read error is generated at when reading out the data of the optical disk through a pickup, also furnished with the function reducing the revolving speed of the optical disk as the above retry means, a focus error(FE) signal is sampled (steps A17-A19) when the above read error is generated, and the revolving speed is selectively set from among the plural revolving speeds in accordance with the value of the FE signal (abnormal or within specific range), then the retry is carried out in a state of revolving speed set to the particular revolving speed.
