PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify mechanisms and to lessen the danger of a magnetic head. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recorder is provided with a device body section 9 which has a rotational drive section 15 for rotationally driving a magneto-optical disk 4, an optical pickup 16 for reading and/or recording signals, etc., on a chassis 17, a holder 10 which holds the magneto-optical disk, the magnetic head 58 which is supported at the optical pickup, exists on the opposite side of the optical pickup across the magneto-optical disk held in the holder and moves between a recording position in contact with or proximity to the magneto-optical disk held by the holder and a non-recording position parted from the magneto-optical disk, a head moving member 53 which is disposed on the holder described above and moves the magnetic head between the recording position and the non-recording position, and an energizing means 56 which energizes this head moving member toward the non-recording position.
