PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a map display apparatus by which, when the position of a nearest institution is retrieved, institutions whose actual movement time from a present position is short can be extracted in their order and which can enhance an actual usage feeling. SOLUTION: In addition to data for plotting of many kinds of maps and data for map matching, an institution name database and an institution database which contains concrete information about respective institutions inside the institution name database are stored in an information recording medium 14. According to a retrieval operation on the side of a user, a control circuit 2 simultaneously extracts a plurality of institutions situated around the present position from the database. It computes a route up to the institutions. It calculates a route distance up to the institutions from the present position or the time required for a movement up to the institutions from the present position. It calculates respective institution names. It creates a list in which the respective institution names are rearranged in the order of the route distance or in the order of the time required for the movement. It displays the list and only the required numbers from the high order of the positions of the institutions in the list on a road map screen which is displayed on a display device 7. |
