Measuring relative density of a gas using the speed of sound through the gas

A method of measuring the relative density of a gas that involves making a measure of the speed of sound in a gas and using the speed of sound in an operation producing the relative density of the gas corresponding to the speed of sound. The measure of the speed of sound in the gas is corrected to standard conditions, and the relative density is obtained by a procedure involving use of the formula: RD = a x SoSsc + b wherein RD is the relative density of the gas, SoSsc is the speed of sound in the gas corrected to standard conditions (sc), and a and b are constants.
