The invention relates to a substitute profile of the toothing of the central wheel of the precessional gear and to a toothing process. According to the invention the profile has a segment (A, B) which is the useful portion in the normal cross-section of the theoretical profile as a right line segment, determined by means of the approximation criterion with a mean square deviation. The right line segment substitutes the portion left of the theoretical profile determined that way, falling within the admissible tolerance fields. The angle psi of the generatrix inclination and the angle (lambda) between the direction of the advance motion and the shaft of the wheel (1) are determined by a minimalization of the maximal deviation of the theoretical curved profile and the substitute that is actually generated.
