Magazine for shells in armoured vehicle

The magazine for munitions is used in an armoured vehicle, esp. a tank. It has several compartments arranged in a rectangular array, and each compartment has a tray or drawer (15) on which a shell rests. Each drawer has several wheels (16a) to enable it to run smoothly along guide rails. There is a horseshoe-shaped collar (20) shaped to engage the tapering portion of the nose of the shell, just behind the fuze at the tip of the nose. The collar is connected to a linkage with a spring and a pawl mechanism so that it can move between an active position engaging a shell and an inactive position. The inside surface of the collar is padded (22).
