PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system which can add additional data to a document by users and is improved in the convenience of the additional data. SOLUTION: An additional data management part 2 manages additional data, added to arbitrary areas of a document managed by a document management part 1, by the creators of the additional data while making them correspond to the document. A control part 3 once receiving a reference request from an operation part 4 takes a requested page of the document out of the document management part 1 and takes the additional data made to correspond to the document out of the additional data management part 2. At this time, the additional data which are taken out can be limited according to the user having made the reference request or settings of the user. The contents of the document which is taken out and the contents of the additional data are displayed in different areas of a display device of the operation part 4. Further, the additional data can be added and deleted according to indications from the operation part 4.
