A tappet 3<SP>1</SP> for a fuel injection pump has a roller 4<SP>1</SP>, adapted to contact a cam 5<SP>1</SP>, mounted on a pin 8<SP>1</SP> which bears in a transverse bore 7<SP>1</SP> in the tappet, the pin 8<SP>1</SP> comprising a sleeve 10<SP>1</SP> with a plastics core 15<SP>1</SP> extending coaxially therethrough and having domed ends 14<SP>1</SP> adapted to engage the wall of a bore 2<SP>1</SP> in the pump body 1<SP>1</SP> in which the tappet reciprocates throughout the stroke of the tappet. The core 15<SP>1</SP>, e.g. a polyamide, is injection moulded into the sleeve 10<SP>1</SP>, its heads 14<SP>1</SP> being small enough to clear an adjacent cam 5<SP>11</SP>. Recesses 17 may be provided in the heads to facilitate such clearance. The ends 12<SP>1</SP> of the sleeve bore 11<SP>1</SP> are rounded or substantially parabolic in axial section. In Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), the core has heads of diameter almost as great as the sleeve. |
