A tappet 31 for a fuel injection pump has a roller 41, adapted to contact a cam 51, mounted on a pin 81 which bears in a transverse bore 71 in the tappet, the pin 81 comprising a sleeve 101 with a plastics core 151 extending coaxially therethrough and having domed ends 141 adapted to engage the wall of a bore 21 in the pump body 11 in which the tappet reciprocates throughout the stroke of the tappet. The core 151, e.g. a polyamide, is injection moulded into the sleeve 101, its heads 141 being small enough to clear an adjacent cam 511. Recesses 17 may be provided in the heads to facilitate such clearance. The ends 121 of the sleeve bore 111 are rounded or substantially parabolic in axial section. In Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), the core has heads of diameter almost as great as the sleeve.
