A derivative of acyl-piperazinyl-pyrimidine of formula (I) wherein: X is an oxygen or sulphur atom; R1 is an alkoxy or trifluoromethyl radical; R2 is an alkyl radical; saturated cycloalkyl; heterocycloalkyl optionally N-substituted; phenyl optionally substituted with 1, 2 or 3 identical or different substituents selected from fluorine, chlorine, bromine, amino, acetamido, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl and methoxy; arylalkyl consisting of an alkyl group substituted by a phenyl radical optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 of the aforementioned substituents; heteroaryl or of fused heteroaromatic system optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 of the aforementioned substituents; and heteroarylalkyl consisting of an alkyl group substituted with a heteroaryl radical or fused heteroaromatic system optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 of the aforementioned substituents; and their physiologically acceptable salts. The compounds have sedative, anticonvulsant, analgesic, muscular relaxant, antitusigenic, ansiolytic, antipsycotic, antidepressant, anti-cerebral ischeamic, anti-migraine activity and are useful in the treatment of sleep disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, cognitive disorders, Alzheimer's disease, sleep-inducing or as general anaesthetic agents.
