Osmometer cell with supported membrane

The semipermeable membrane is clamped between two discs whose facing surfaces are grooved to form a series of channels, those in one disc being filled with the sample solution and those in the other by a solvent for the solution. At least that side of the membrane facing the solvent filled channels is provided with a perforated support plate pref. made by etching perforations in a stainless steel sheet. Deformation of the membrane into the channles, during the period of reaching osmotic pressure, is avoided.
