PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic relay that has excellent durability of contact points and a strong arc-extinction action capable of achieving diffusibility of arc efficiently, and that is inexpensive and compact mountable on an electric automobile or the like. SOLUTION: This electromagnetic relay has an open-type contact-point chamber. In the electromagnetic relay, by a return spring 16 and a contact spring 5, a movable contact part 4 and a fixed contact part 6, which are engaged with an insulator 18 contacting with a plunger 17 moving forward and backward in accordance with on and off of current in a solenoid 1, can be connected in parallel. Further, a permanent magnet 7 which is a means of arc-extinction is opposed to a pair or plural pairs of movable carriers 4, and its magnetic pole faces are in a polar arrangement in which they strengthen Lorentz force F with each other when arc current occurs. In this way, an electromagnetic relay that has an excellent durability of contact points and a strong arc- extinction action can be provided.
