The domed roof 17, Fig. 2, of an inground cryogenic liquid e.g. L.N.G. storage reservoir is constructed of sheet material e.g. aluminium alloy or nickel-steel and is supported by a gridlike framework 13, 14 Fig. 5, resting on a supporting concrete ring beam 2 surrounding the reservoir mouth at ground level; the dome being tensioned by tie rods 6 embedded in ring 2 and secured to a ring 7 fixed to the underside of the dome 17, and the peripheral margin of the sheet material being bent over the outer edge of ring 2 to form a skirt 18 sealed at its lower edge 20 within a frozen sand-filled trough 22. A heat insulation layer 3 of rigid foam blocks is interposed between the ground and the ring 2 and a layer 17<SP>1</SP> also lines the inner cylindrical face of the ring and the inner face of the dome 17. |
