Prolonged release formulation of GM-CSF dispersed in a polymeric hydrogel

Described is a formulation for controlled delivery of GM-CSF. The GM-CSF is dispersed in a synthetic polymeric hydrogel which absorbs water up to 90% of the final weight of the hydrated hydrogel. The hydrogel is preferably alginate, a polyphosphazene, a polyacylate, a polyethylene oxide-polypropylene glycol block copolymer and hyaluronic acid.
