Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2 and MMP-9) inhibitors in the treatment of conditions such as age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and diabetic retinopathy

Medicaments comprising matrix metalloprotease-2 and metalloprotease -9 inhibitors (MMP-2 and MMP-9) for the treatment of ocular angiogenesis, i.e. macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy are disclosed. The ability of these compounds to inhibit MMPs or the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is demonstrated using in vitro assays.
