Cover 1 is located over the complete water surface area (water line indicated by 3). At least one open-topped water-tight receptacle is provided in the cover and is typically an annular channel 6. Water flows through holes 7 into channel 6. This allows for an animal to place its muzzle in channel 6, but also provides for the cover protecting the water (and typically float 10) from contamination (and damage).
