PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply perform a transmission test even when an ATM network is in an operation system. SOLUTION: A transmission test is started by sending a test request to a prescribed ATM transmission testing device during normal operation. The ATM transmission testing device to which the test request is sent generates an ATM cell for transmission test corresponding to the test mode of the test request and transmits the ATM cell to the opposite node. The node receiving it generates and transmits a response ATM cell for a transmission test. When the node transmitting the ATM cell for a transmission test receives the response, the node inspects the response cell in accordance with the test mode.
