METHOD FOR SELECTING TEXT AREA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selecting a text area from an image. SOLUTION: Characters by words in an image and format information are accessed from a memory device, and active areas made to correspond to the respective words in the image based upon the characters and format information are determined; and the initial and final words in a text area selected on the basis of at least one active area made to correspond to at least one word in the selected area are discriminated and on the basis of the initial and final words in the selected text area, all the words in the selected text area are discriminated.
