Method of treating autoimmune diseases in nonhumans by administering a species of Coxiella or components thereof

A method of preventing, inhibiting, delaying onset or otherwise ameliorating the effects of an autoimmune disease in a non-human mammal comprises administering to the nonhuman mammal an autoimmune preventing effective amount of a species of Coxiella or an antigenic component thereof. Also disclosed is a method of prolonging survival of islet tissue transplants into a non-human mammal comprising administering to the nonhuman mammal an effective amount of a species of Coxiella or an antigenic component thereof.
