Device for the thermal vitrification of asbestos waste into a silica-soda-calcium glass with continuous casting and in a confined atmosphere comprises airtight reservoir (1) for preparation and storage of a vitrifiable mixture, horizontally inclined tubular furnace (6) fed with the silica-soda-calcium mixture by a motorized endless screw feeder (7), and a confined atmosphere enclosure (16) receiving the molten material into a water tank (14),or into a mould. The furnace includes a block (12) retaining a bed of molten material which also allows the continuous casting of the glass by overflow (13). The confined atmosphere enclosure (16) incorporates a condenser (19) for the vaporized water from the casting of the glass (15) and, in the case of casting into the water tank (14), an ultrasonic transducer (18) for the production of an aqueous mist of submicron micelles (17) and water transformed by the condenser (20), with the recuperation of the condensate (21) and rejection of the carbon dioxide to the atmosphere (22).
