Each of two heating units (22L,22R) has two sub regions (22HL,22HR) which receives and flows partial air streams e.g. cold air, running in opposite directions. Cold air by=pass ducts above the heating units circulate cold air from an evaporator and a cold air region. Mixing spaces (34L,34R), partitioned from each other, are provided at the downstream of each heating unit. Air flow control elements e.g. flaps, regulate the intake of cold air from each by=pass duct and the hot air from the heating unit into each mixing space, so that cold and hot air can be mixed to a desired temperature. Air conditioning ducts circulate the mixed cold and hot air to any of the air conditioning zones in the vehicle.
