Self-adjusting plunger switches, especially for vehicle braking lights, are generally designed for operating reliably for the total life of the vehicle but the plunger can be pressed into the interior of the switch housing such that its position relative to the slider changes. Reliable functioning of the pedal switch of the motor vehicle is guaranteed for the total life for the vehicle and this prevents any unwanted adjustment or de-adjustment of the plunger in the plunger switch. The slider (13) has a spring-elastic locking latch (20), which can be brought into engagement with the latch teeth (11,12), and a locking/blocking latch (21), in which the latter can be brought by means of an arresting element (25), out of engagement with the plunger (8) on the housing (2), and a blocking sleeve (28) can be supported against the housing and then released again.
