<p>An automatic fueling system includes a pump (18 or 20) having a telescoping arm (44) capable of placement in three-dimensional space, a flexibly mounted nozzle (46) on the end of the arm and a docking cone (56) to mate with the fuel port (75) on a vehicle (10). A light (54) and a camera (52) located adjacent to the nozzle are used to recognize retro-reflective light from an annular target (77) about the intake port. A data link (66) is provided through the mated nozzle with a keypad (68) accessible by the vehicle operator. The vehicle includes a control actuator (140) which selectively couples the actuator cable (142) associated with the fuel door (28) and the fuel inlet valve (102) with the emergency brake cable to engage the emergency brake (146), open the fuel door and open the inlet valve.</p> |
