<p>Disclosed is a polymeric article, e.g., a window for a wall of a pressurizable chamber, the article or window having a first surface for exposure to stresses and environmental agents in usage and also having the characteristic that, when the usage stress is removed, the first surface is under greater compressive stress in the direction of the plane of the article or window than the remainder of the article or window is under. Also disclosed are methods for making such an article or window, including thermally or mechanically relaxing the first surface while the article or window is under significant tensile stress.</p> |
