This form of the sodium salt of 5-methoxy-2-[ [(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl) methyl]sulfinyl]-1H-benzimidazole (omeprazole sodium form B) is characterized by the X-ray diffraction pattern in the table above. The salt may be prepared by adding an aqueous Na+B- base to omeprazole in a solvent mixture comprising an alcohol and water, allowing the solution to crystallize, optionally using omeprazole sodium form B to induce crystallization, and isolating the omeprazole sodium form B thus obtained. The salt may be used in medicaments for intravenous administration in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.
