Colour gamut correction using predefined colour space

Devices such as monitors and printers have different colour gamuts, that is, they will display or print different ranges of colours, so that a colour displayed on a monitor will not necessarily be the same as that which will appear when the image on the monitor is printed. To correct for this a predefined colour space is used to convert colours from the monitor to the printer by producing a set of colour data values. The set of colour data values is for use in converting from a first colour space, such as RGB, to a second colour space, such as CMYK. Colour separation tables may also be used. In this method, a first colour separation table is created. A second colour separation table is created for converting values in the predefined colour space to values in a colorant space. A composite colour separation lookup table is then generated using values from the first colour separation table and second values from the second colour separation table.
