The anisotropy is realized by several layers or strips, and fibres of ion exchange membranes. The model may be specifically used to simulate the electrophysiological characteristics of the muscle tissue of the heart. Layers or fibres may be passive or active, passive describing the pure volume conductivity and active describing the supply of current into the layers or fibres.
