The device is for cooling charge air from a compressor (3) in an engine (9) and simultaneous cooling of exhaust gas fed back to the engine. It produces a first cooling fluid flow (m1) in a cooling fluid conduit (20). It has a first charge air cooler (4) which is cooled with the aid of a second cooling fluid flow (m2) and a second charge air cooler (5) cooled with the aid of ambient air (32). Charge air is fed through the first charge air cooler and then through the second such cooler, after which it is fed into the engine. The device also has an exhaust gas recirculation cooler (17) for cooling the fed-back exhaust gases cooled by a third cooling fluid flow (m1). A fourth cooling fluid flow (m4) cools the engine and comprises at least a part flow of the first cooling fluid flow. It is at least as large as the first cooling fluid flow reduced by some of the second and third cooling fluid flows.
