Intersystem connection forwarding, especially between asynchronous systems, enables efficient, reliable activation of compressed mode based on existing methods

The method involves comparing a transmission quality detected by a subscriber terminal (UE) w.r.t. transmission characteristics to a base station (NB) of the first system (RS1) with a first threshold and activating compressed mode if the quality is below the threshold. If the quality is lower than a second threshold the terminal detects information sequences from the base station (BTS) in the second system (RS2) over a management channel. The terminal selects a suitable base station for forwarding depending on the information received.
