The drive belt (44) passes power from the drive by variable speed to the gearing in both forward and reverse conditions and the main driving belt (34) between drive and power source passes this to the drive. A powered connection moves drive towards the gear between seleted positions and in so doing shifts the gears at speed due to the power transmitted through the belt (44) for fast condition changes. Conduction is by a cam (64) mechanism mounted on a swivel arm (60) affording three positions for direction exchange. The arm (60) forms part of the cam mechanism which is for direction change and for part of the connecting system fitted with a brake and reverser linkage (90).
