The board-shaped filter insert has a reinforcement (21) at the air filter (16) where the end fold (26) of the filter is stiffened by a bar (23). To assemble the stiffening unit, a blade (24) is pressed into the final fold space of the filter web (17), so that the final fold (26) is clamped between the blade and tabs (22). The tabs (22) are firmly bonded by adhesive to the end fold by a strip, such as by winding around the side strips (19), and secure the reinforcement in place.
