Oxidation color for coloring keratinous fibers contains a combination of 4,5-diaminopyrazole derivative(s) as developer component and 2-halo-3-aminophenol(s) (I) as coupler component, optionally in the form of physiologically compatible salts. R<1> = 1-4 carbon (C) alkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy or allyl; R<2> = halogen; R<3> = hydrogen (H), 1-4 C alkyl with 0-4 halogen substituents, 1-4 C alkoxy, 3-4 C dihydroxyalkyl; methanesulfonyl, carboxyl -COOR<4>, perfluoroacyl -CORf, aminocarbonyl -CONR<5>R<6> or substituted alkyl -(CnH2n)-B; R<4> = H or 1-4 C alkyl; Rf = 1-4 C perfluoroalkyl; n = 1-4; B = hydroxyl (OH), amino -NR<7>R<8> or aminocarbonyl -CONR<9>R<10>; R<5-10> = H or 1-4 C (monohydroxy)alkyl; or NR<7>R<8>, NR<9>R<10>, NR<11>R<12> = a morpholino, piperidino or pyrrolidino ring. An Independent claim is also included for a method of coloring keratinous fibers, in which the oxidation color, in a suitable cosmetic formulation, is applied to the fibers and developed with an oxidant, which is added to the color directly before application or applied to the fibers with or after the color, allowed to act for 10-45, preferably 30 minutes and then rinsed off or washed out with shampoo.
