The vice has a base body (4) and two jaws, of which at least one jaws can slide as a carriage and can be fixed in the base body in latches provided for this. A fixing bolt mounted on the carriage (1) engages in matching bores (3) in the base body, whereby the fixing bolt can be operated from above. The fixing bolt can be operated by a gear arrangement, e.g. a gear wheel system.
