[Also in Division F1] A bearing and sealing assembly comprises a shaft supported in bearings, a first sealing part 6 carried on the shaft, a second sealing part 82 supported on a carrier 78, spring means 88 biasing the carrier so that the second sealing part 82 engages the side of the first sealing part, coolant from passages 9 in the first sealing part being directed by vanes on a deflector ring 106 on to the engaging surfaces of the sealing parts. Coolant oil supplied under pressure through conduits 200 enters an annular chamber formed by ring 144, exits by nozzles (146, Fig. 2, not shown) and is received in passageways 24, 26 of scoop 22. From passage 24 oil passes through passages 20 in spacer 18, passages 16 in gear 10, splines 12, passages 5 to an annular passage 7 and through passages 9 on to deflector ring 106. Vanes 108 on the ring direct oil to the engaging surfaces of seal parts 6, 82. Carrier 78 is movable axially against rings on member 72 secured to the housing. Oil from passage 26 passes through grooves in inner race 34, 36, to plunger 40 on spacer 38 and then enters opening 148 to a reservoir. The other end of the assembly is similarly constructed. |
