<p>A pharmaceutical composition for treating inflammation and infections of the stomach and intestines contains at least one water-sol. protein-type bismuth complex which is reversibly precipitable with alcohol and in which the bismuth is bonded so as to be stable towards dialysis. The protein type material is selected from the globular proteins and these are chemically modified or at least partially denatured and/or degraded in such way that new nucleophile positions in the protein molecule molecule are set free and these are at least partially taken by bismuth. The protein-type material has an isoelectric point adapted to the ambience of the tissue to be treated; it may be chemically modified pepsin, or trypsin or chymotrypsin. The complex is prepd. by reacting a water-sol. protein-type material with a sol. bismuth cpd.; complex formation takes place while the protein material is subjected to chemical modification by gradual heating, pref. in alkaline medium.</p> |
